The Muslim European Empowerment Programme (MEET) is an important initiative to promote intra-faith and interfaith dialogue, building capacity of key stakeholders to address the challenges facing Muslims in Europe and to celebrate the achievements and contributions being made to European life.
As part of the democracy week in Kristiansand, we are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Muslim European Empowerment (MEET) Conference, taking place on Thursday, 4th May 2023.
The democracy festival in Arendal will once again be this year’s largest venue for those with an interest in politics and society. The Nordic Council of Ministers is on hand to discuss Nordic challenges and solutions for how we will create the world’s most sustainable and integrated region. Members of MEET will be speaking on the 16th and 17th.
The European Conference on Democracy and Human Rights is held every year on Europe Day on 5 May, in collaboration with the Council of Europe. The theme of this year’s conference is freedom of expression, and the three sessions will focus on artificial intelligence and digital platforms, implementation of existing commitments, and freedom of artistic expression. The 3rd Conference brings together an impressive range of regional and national leaders from across Europe, as well as officials, thinkers and activists.
Many of the issues discussed in the 3rd European Conference directly affect Muslims living in Europe. A meeting on 6 May 2022 will unpack those themes specifically in the context of Muslim communities. Hosted by the University of Agder, it will bring together Muslim leaders and activists from across Europe. The aim is to understand the problems Muslims face and share approaches to addressing those, thereby promoting lesson learning and wider implementation of effective interventions. The event will also launch the MEET programme.
